1855 BORDEAUX CLASSIFICATION
WHAT IS IT ? DOES IT STILL MATTER?
In 1855, Emperor Napoleon III arranged the Universal Exposition in Paris. This was a huge exhibition designed to advertise the best products of France to the rest of the world. Prior to the fair, the emperor invited the Bordeaux Chamber of Commerce and the city’s wine guild to collaborate to compile a list of the greatest wine estates. The resultant list ranked the Châteaux, or Wine Houses, into five classes in descending order of quality from “First Growth” to “Fifth Growth”. This system, still in use today, is the wine trade simply following the unspoken and universally accepted preferences that has now existed for years. Bartending School online ? Yes. Mixology school ? Yes, we’re that too.
